Cart

The cart comes in two forms: a drawer that opens over the page and a page at the address /cart. You choose between them in Theme settings > Cart; the cart page is always available.

The cart page shows:

• the items, with their image, options ("Size: M"), custom properties, subscription plan, unit price, and discounts;
• a summary: subtotal, discounts applied to the cart, shipping ("Calculated at checkout"), total, and a tax notice;
• a collapsible order note ("Add an order note"), saved automatically as the shopper types;
• the Shop Pay Installments message, if it's turned on;
• the Checkout button, which shows the total, and the dynamic checkout buttons (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay…) turned on in your payment settings;
• the service promises, if Show service promises is checked.

1 per page at most

The drawer has no settings. It shows the item count, the items, the total, the tax and shipping notice, the Checkout button, and a View cart link. The detailed subtotal, the order note, the dynamic checkout buttons, and the service promises are only on the cart page.

Changing quantities

On each line, the quantity selector saves changes immediately, without reloading; Remove deletes the line. If the requested quantity isn't available, the line says so ("That quantity isn't available. Your cart shows what could be kept.").

Shopify's quantity rules (minimum, maximum, increments, available with B2B catalogs) are respected and shown below the line: "Minimum 2", "Sold in multiples of 6", "Maximum 10".

Without JavaScript, each line keeps a quantity field and an Update button.

Service promises

The cart page can show four commitments, each with a check mark:

1. Secure payment
2. Complimentary delivery
3. Free exchanges and returns
4. Collect in store

Empty cart

The empty cart shows "Your cart is empty.", an invitation to discover the collection, and a Continue shopping button to /collections/all. On the cart page, the service promises stay visible.

What the cart doesn't offer

• Discount codes: these are entered at Shopify checkout. Automatic discounts, however, do appear in the cart.
• Free shipping bar, upsells, and shipping estimates: add them with an app if you need them.

Gift cards sent to a recipient

When a shopper sends a gift card to someone, the cart line shows the recipient's email, their name, the message, and the send date. See Gift card.
